Help! ~12 year old Amana SXD26VW found warm this morning. Traced problem to compressor not starting. Draws ~21 amps for 4-5 seconds upon plugging in, then a click from in the compressor and amp draw down to .4 (fans only running). Compressor clicks again after a few minutes and attempts to start again. Compressor gets moderately warm during these attempts.
Pulled compressor 'relay', measured 5.6 ohms across it. Check pins on compressor and found 2.1, 8.8, 10.6 ohms respectively across run/start/both windings.
Rigged a way to apply full line voltage to both start and run windings for several seconds while watching amp draw. Compressor still failed to start and was drawing ~23.5 amps. LRA rating on compressor is 25.5.
Is my compressor shot?? Anything else to try? Is it realistic to replace the compressor?
Went shopping for a new refrigerator today and found they are all ~69" tall nowadays. My opening is 68.25" - making a compressor replacement potentially more attractive.
Thanks, Jim

Jim, they make a hard start kit, that you take the overload and relay off the compressor, and this part has the overload and relay, and a large start capacitor, to give it an extra kick. All built in one. The part # is RCO-410 This would be the last gig!! Tom ApplianceEducator.com
