freezer drain keeps freezing up

Maybe someone has seen this.

I've checked and cleared the freezer drain on my kenmore
side by side twice now and I'm positive it's not obstructed,
but it still freezes up after a few days and causes an ice dam.

What am I missing???

It does not have to be locked, it just has to be partiall clogged to slow down the drain.

Check where the drain tube empties into the drip tray, Could be dust or some crud here.
If OK, clean the tray so you can see if anything flushes out in the next step.

Get a turkey baster or something like this and flush the drain with a 10% bleach, let it sit for 10 minutes and do it again. Often crud grows inside the tube and you are trying to flush it out.

Thanks, I'll try the bleach mix and see what happens.

The last time I cleared the ice dam I paid attention to the
flow, and the water pretty much drained out of the tube as fast
as I could pour it in. That's why I felt certain there was not even
a partial restriction.

Take a piece of 12ga. copper wire about 4" long, stick one end down the drain and wrap the other end around the HEATING ELEMENT, You'll never have this problem again!!!!!! I've been doing it for 25+ yrs. and have NEVER had a problem!!!!!!:)

Pull the rear cover in the freezer, The heater is the Black element at the bottom of the coil!!!! X-Super comp (8.90) Racer and Crew-Chief!!! 2 National Event wins and Multi Division 1 Wins:)
