Hello,
My ice maker stopped filling the bin and started spitting out maybe a load every 24 hours.
Water dispenser works fine.
Replaced & reset filter and reset infrared.
City had a water issue that drained pipes & sludge came through.
(Probably no connection)

Any ideas?

Deborah,

Under the circumstances, and based on your post,

I would reccomend you replace the water valve assembly,

Part number: AP3160649
Part number: AP3160649

and flush the water supply line to the refrigerator.

I'm pretty sure, that will solve your problem.
I'm also sure you'll find a lot of sediment in the fill valve if you were to dismantle the assembly and check.

:) :) :)

Got your suggestion.
Can you tell me how to get to that part?

Deborah,

You'll need to roll the refrigerator out, enough to get behind the unit, and unplug the power cord.

You'll need to remove the lower (black) compartment cover.

Depending on the installation, now is a good time to turn off the water supply to the refrigerator fill valve,( you may have to trace the line back to the water supply shut off valve).

Make sure, you have the new fill valve in hand before you remove it, it'll be easier.

Once you have the fill valve out, you should be able to switch wire for wire and tube for tube, and reinstall the assembly, it should only take you a few minutes.

Before you reconnect the water supply line, I reccomed you open the supply shut off valve, full open, and flush a few of gallons of water thru the line, then connect it up to the valve, and plug the power cord back into the outlet.

Use a large container, and dispense a couple of quarts of water from the water dispenser in the door, then move the fridge back to it's original position.

It should'nt take very long, and can be done with basic handtools.

:) :) :)

OK. I ordered the part.
I was a little concerned that the part #s were different but the part looked the same.
My handyman assured me that it was the right part, but needed to get 2 additional hoses to make it fit my Whirlpool Conquest.
After all, I still have no ice.
Water still fine.
Any suggestions?
Remember that my water was off for several hours and all lines dry.

Deborah,

You've got me lost and wonderring. or your handyman does.

You did order and recieve this part number ?

Part number: AP3160649
Part number: AP3160649

Everything you needed was in the fill valve kit, including the extra tubing, and an instruction sheet.

Why did he need extra tubes, all he needed was basic tools to install the kit.

Did he turn on the water supply and flush the water line, before he hooked it up to the new fill valve ?

Once he hooked everything up, did you try to dispense water, from the dispenser, it takes at least a gallon of water to fill and flush the air and debris from the water dispenser system.

Does the icemaker make ice ?

The number you attached, are you available there, during normal EST work hours ?

:) :) :)

Joe,
Yes that is my cell & always with me.
Unfortunately, the reciept is at home & I'm at work.
I do know that this part # was nowhere on the order.
I also know that the part # started with WP as in Whirlpool.
My handyman is a licensed plumber.
Do you want his cell #?
Are you able to look at the order?
Thanks

Deborah,

I'm compiling some technical information for testing the icemaker itself,

I'll be contacting you later today with the information.

Hi Joe,
OK So I found the light on the infrared light very inconsistant.
Mostly flashing twice, pauseing between. No change after closing flapper on the left.

Found the black filler hose and it did feel frozen.
Took my hair dryer to it for 5 minutes.
Not a drip, but infrared started 2 short 1 long and steady on when flapper closed.
Now back to 2 flashes.
Maybe the line is frozen up in the ceiling?
What do you think?

Deborah
