I need to replace the water dispenser feed line from the back lower left of my GE fridge that goes near the compressor to the front door. It has developed a leak in the tube and every time that we use the dispenser it leaks on the floor. I have found this tube to replace it but am concerned abour removing the old one. Should I leave a small piece of the old tube on each end and purchase two unions (the hole is in the middle of the tube) or can I just pull off the old one, cut the new one to length and then push it on a connector, I cannot tell from the old hose if that would work or not.

Here is the part that I am looking at purchasing:

Part Details - GE Plastic tube, part number: AP2065182

I can't tell and customer service cannot tell me if it is 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch in diameter.

Model: GE GSS25LGMF

Thanks for your help!
