Whirlpool Modular Icemaker installed in Kenmore 106.955953
Won't make ice. Icemaker does not fill with water. Water OK to door water dispenser. Have used hair dryer to make sure supply tube is not frozen.

After reading this thread on similar issues

I find the following:

1. I have power to the ice maker LN meter test
2. Icebmaker cycles when jumpered on TH and regularly
3. Resistance on LH is 72 Ohms to 72 Ohm specified. OK
4. Resistance on LM low at 72 OHm to 4400 OHM specified. ???
5. Resistance check on VN is 250 Ohm, low to 300 spec.
6. On TH jumper cycle, water valve get 108 volts at proper time
7. On changing leads to water and icemaker valves the following:
7a. ice maker lead to water valve, then TH jumper, valve cycles at proper time dispensing water to door.
7b. water lead to icemaker valve, press water, no water to icemaker

Ergo - ice maker is OK even though motor resistance does not match spec, and ice maker valve is bad even though resistance is close to spec.

Am I thinking logically here?

it has a dual valve one for the water disp and one for the icemaker both coils should ohm the same

all resistance measures were taken from front of icemaker through letter keyed test holes. I will check individual valves later.

BTW the icemaker will make ice and eject properly if manually filled with water.

The resistance measured at the electrical leads at the water valves is as follows:
for the water dispenser to door valve is 285 ohm and
for the water dispenser to the ice maker valve is 247 ohms

don't quite match, and neither is close to the 300 ohm specified in the manual

I'm thinking I just need to try to replace the valve since the unit makes ice if manually filled, cycles normally, dispense water is the electrical leads to the valves are swapped, and the ice maker thermostat is jumpered.

force cycle it and have your meter leads ready on the VAC scale and see if the valve gets voltage on the icemaker valve when its calling for water

I already know the answer to this question. Yes there is voltage, because when I switch the electrical leads I get water from the water dispenser. However, just to make sure I checked it. 108 volts.

Well, yes. That is the logic deduction that I wanted verification on in my original post. I ordered the valve today.

Guys - I have a Whirlpool side by side w/ an icemaker that quit supplying water. Followed your t/s'ing - made perfect sense, I have the same issue - bad solenoid on the IM side. Swapped the 2 control leads around got the same result - water did work to the door dispenser.

Thanks a bunch - you probably saved me a hundred bucks on a service call - which I'd only do a last resort anyways.
