Model Number: GSS22TETECC Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
Hello, I'm at my wits end. I have a GE GSS22JETE CC side by side fridge freezer. The problem is the ice in the ice maker tray melts, and then refreezes into a big mass. There are times when you open the freezer and there is liquid condensation on the sides of the freezer. It's almost like the defrost heater is staying on too long. I've replaced the Defrost heater, the thermistor in the freezer by the evaporator coils as well as the defrost thermostat. I've just replaced the control board on the back of the unit. But it still has the same problem. Also the ice dispenser auger motor freezes up. I take the whole assembly out and it works fine after it thaws out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Some models have a foam gasket behind where the evaporator cover connects to the fan housing If this gasket gets moisture in it and freezes the thermistor can read temperature off the ice in the foam causing the defrost cycle to stay on too long.
This is a long shot because most models don’t have the gasket (I don’t know which ones do) but if yours does remove the gasket and see if this solves your issue. GE Refrigerator Repair Guide Last edited by applianceman : 02-10-2012 at 10:44 AM. |

The heat from the defrost heater should never travel that far from the evaporator. You might be missing a panel, or the evaporator fan is running in defrost!

As best as I can determine all of the panels are in place. As the problem began before it was disassembled, I do not know how a panel could have been displaced. I did check to see if the fan was running, but it was off. I also checked to make certian the heater on the icemaker was off. Thanks again for your help. |

I am having the same problem. Most of the time my freezer temperatures are fine, However at times i see condensation around the ice bucket and temperatures between 40 and 50 degrees F. I have replaced both thermisters and the motherboard. Any ideas? Has anyone with this problem figured out the fix. I have to break the ice cubes apart about every other day.
Thanks, |

I had checked that earlier. It does not seem to have any impact on the temperature. |
