my kenmore/whirlpool side by side refrigerator drops ice but the ice door wont open .please help

You have an Amana refrigerator. Usually, if you remove the fountain bottom grill,( just pull out ) you will see screws to remove, then slide the fountain cover up and off. You will most probably find a bad solenoid. You will need to go to the Sears parts select site to get part numbers, then just order them at this parts site.

Be aware, a lot of solenoids, including this one, blow open if activated too long, so look for a shorted micro switch.

is the micro switch located right behind push pad. maybe i should just see if I have power to solenoid with glass pad pushed in. Thanks again

It's rare the micro switch fails on these, so you can check once the solenoid is replaced, will be evident if it stays on.

Thanks richappy, when I pulled ice shute out that the ice door pivot arm was broken by the solenoid
