I have a Whirlpool ref that is running continuous. It will shut down for 30 sec. and start back up. When turning the stat down it satisfies, than it will start again after 1 minute. The compressor is pretty hot to the touch, which might be normal. When the problem happens the stat is set at the mid point.(3). The ref is keeping very good temps inside. Hope someone can help with my problem, the unit is not that old.
Thanks in Advance

Is the condenser/compressor fan running?

Are the condenser coils clean?

Are the louvers in the front kick plate clean?

OK

Remove the cover in the freezer side so you can see the evaporator coils.

If the frost pattern is just in one area or very blotchy you are probably low on freon.

If they are heavily iced/frosted over you probably have a defrost problem.

Here is a good link
http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator.html
Check out Item 20.

In the case of low freon the unit has to have run several hours after a defrost cycle so you cann see the frost pattern. Example picture's in the above link show this.
