Frigidaire upright freezer model FFU20IC8CW1 temp alarm went off. Stuff very obviously beginning to defrost. Drain plug frozen over.Removed all contents from freezer and let totally defrost overnight.Next day tried to turn back on,turned dial to 4 but no sound of compressor or fan, just a beep.
If I unplug the freezer and then plug it back in then fan goes on incl compressor but if I then turn temp off (using dial in freezer)and back on fan and compressor do not go on unless I unplug and plug back in the freezer. My guess is that when the proper temp is reached and fan shuts off it will not come back on at the next cycle thus causing a rise in temp.I'm going to try and leave it on for a cycle and see if it starts back on it's own..
Any suggestions,

PS- already replaced electonic board and defrost thermostat-no change.

Thanks,
Fred

Fred,

Possible the problem is a bad temperature control in the freezer (#21 on the diagram).

- The temperature control Part number: AP3210859

Thanks for the reply,Gene

Ok everthing seems to be working. left it running several hours then lowered temp till it shut off then raised temp control to 3 and left it.Returned an hour later and it was running!!! Thought maybe there's a lag period when you raise the temp before it cycles up??So I tried turning it off again and then turning it back on this time it went on right away.
Why would it take some time to cycle one time and then cycle on immediately another?? Is there any way to test the temp control?

It is very important not to turn the cold control on right after it was turned off. You have to wait at least 10 minutes.

Hopefully it's gone. Cross your fingers.
