Hi. My fridge stopped cooling.
The first notice I get is a louder click and then a buzzing sound for approx 10 - 15 seconds coming from probably a rely very close to the compressor ( it is almost attached to the compressor). During the buzzing time the lights inside become dimmer. After the 10 –15 seconds the buzzing sound stops following a second click from that rely.
The process keeps repeating, the fans keep going and the temperature goes up.
What is the purpose of the overload relay and run CAP?
I would appreciate any advice. I hope to be able to get a proper part and replace it myself.
Thanks a lot, Bret1958

Sounds like you may have a bad start relay or a bad compressor.
If you have a ohm meter and know how to use it you could ohm out the compressor to make sure it's not grounded out.
If the compressor ohms out ok I would replace the start relay with a new one.
The over load acts like a breaker protecting the rest of the appliance. The capacitor helps the start relay.
If you don't have a ohm meter I would simply replace the start relay and hope for the best.
