Our refrigerator, especially noticeable in the freezer, cools fine, but it must not recycle on and than everything begins to get soft. We can unplug it and start it again and the fan comes on and it freezes again. We think this is affecting the refrigerator as well, but it doesn't show it is getting warmer as well. One repairman just told us we need a new compressor if the part he replaced didn't work. We don't believe that. Help

The compressor start windings my be getting weak, which if that's the case he's correct. What part did he put on?

He put on a new relay switch...truly not sure what he called it.

That's the start relay.
The cooling for the refrigerator is coming from the freezer, which is apparently warming up do to the compressor not coming on as it is supposed to. Which could be an indication of a freon leak, which would mean a compressor replacement in the near future.

It was put on 6 days ago. he said if that didn't work it was the compressor. But as I said, it truly does get cold, but once it stops, it doesn't start cooling again without being unplugged.

IT Was put on 6 days ago. It cools fine once we plug it in and than must quit and doesnt come back on

Which is probably giving the compressor an extra boost to start.
How long are you leaving it unplugged? Can you turn the temp control all the way down then back up to start the compressor again?

Yes, I just turned it way down and it came on again, guess we could have down than instead of unplugging it. Guess you are going to say that the problem isn't the thermostat, which we thought might be the problem,,,,am I right?
