Question Ice build up on bottom of freezer side
Model Number: gd5rhaxssoo   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

We got this side-by-side Whirlpool Gold series about a year ago and it started building up ice in the freezer compartment almost since the beginning, blocking the bottom drawer which we had to finally remove it completely.
By the look of the ice patches I can track the ice/water coming from the vents located on the back freezer wall, although there isn't much ice built on the coil behind these vents.
Everything else works just fine: the freezer and the refrigerator seem to do their job, although once in a while we also find a little adjustable window that is communicating between the freezer and the bottom refrigerator drawer, blocked by snow/ice.
We own a few Whirlpool appliances but this refrigerator and another up-right freezer that always gets it's defrost drain frozen, both came as a disappointing surprise.

The problem with your refrigerator is a frozen drain which is under the evaporator coil in the freezer. Remove the rear panel in the freezer to access the drain. You can use a hair dryer to defrost it. Run hot water through the drain to make sure it is open.

Here are the break down diagrams for the whirlpool refrigerator Model GD5RHAXSS00
