Model Number: TH25TW Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
Hello I hope you can help, this appliance is not cooling
Here are my steps * 1 week ago 1 - warm air blowing into freezer 2 - Tested 2 temp controls, both OK 3 - Pulled fridge away from wall; condensor fan near compressor is running, not sure about compressor. heard intermittent single click 4 - coils are clean 5 - pulled off start relay & capacitor. Both tested OK with digital multimeter 8 - tested connections on compressor with digital mm, seemed OK 9 - Start relay & capacitor together were <$40 so ordered those 10 - Did not order overload protector. It looked OK and from googling apparently these very seldom go bad * Today 11 - Wired in new parts - note new start relay had only 2 connections, not 3 like the old one. Solved this by soldering together 2 connectors per the wiring diagram on back of the fridge. I think the connections are OK. 12 - Condensor fan starts, runs for 2 minutes, stops for 15 seconds, repeats 13 - Compressor is hot to the touch 14 - coils underneath fridge are not cold. Update - my wiring was wrong, Duhhh.
Now 20-30 seconds after turning the fridge on, compressor hums for 20 seconds or so, then a click and the buzzing stops. After 2 minutes or so, repeats. I didn't get the buzzing before replacing the relay & capacitor, a bit of improvement I guess... Not sure how to tell whether or not the compressor is running, it is getting warmer as time goes on. but the coils don't appear to be chilling. Feels like it may be vibrating and I can hear a humming if put my ear up to it. That could be all coming from the condensor fan, I'm not sure. Air blowing into the freeaer feels room temperature. |
