I have an Amana SXD26VW side by side, within the last couple of months, the items in the freezing unit starts to defrost and the ice in the ice maker starts to melt. The coils in the freezing unit are frozen solid, I ran the timer thru the defrost cycle and defrosted the unit and it starts to work fine, but then freezes up again, I just replaced the timer yesterday, but by tonight, the coils are frozen up again. Any suggestions as to what other component may be the culprit?

There is a defrost thermostat, that is usually the issue on those Amana's. It is located on the top of the evaporator coil. It could be the heater, but most likely not. If you had an ohm meter, you could ohm out the heater with the refrigerator unplugged. Then you would no for sure the defrost thermostat was bad. Make sure you defrost the whole coil, real well, after the repair. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
