Freezer defrosts seem too long

My upright freezer works fine for a week or so, but then it gets warm and food starts to soften as water is coming out the bottom. Then after about 2 days, it will chill up again and food gets frozen again.

It seems to me that the freezer is staying in defrost mode too long. Would this indicate a bad defrost timer? or something else?

Most likely the defrost timer and a clogged defrost drain(water coming out the bottom)
