First I have a Whirlpool model GD2LHGXKQ00 fridge (manufacturing date 11/2001), compressor is the EGY80. My problem was originally the fridge not cooling. Found out the start relay was bad. I ordered the start relay kit (8201786). I installed the PTC relay into the top two pegs on the compressor (hooked up the white wire) and installed the overload protector (part number 2187145) into the bottom peg (hooked up the red wire). My fridge does not have the blue wire like some talk about. Too easy, right? Once I plugged the fridge back in, the fan came on, the compressor came on. The fridge was cooling again. About 15 minutes later everything went dead and there was a burning smell coming from inside the fridge. I pulled the fridge back out, took the bottom piece back off and noticed that the fan was not working nor the compressor. The compressor was hot. I opened the fridge doors and the lights came on. So the fridge was still getting power. I checked the circuit breaker out in the garage and all fuses were good to go. None blown. I unplugged the fridge and now confused on what is next. I plugged the fridge back up after several hours and can hear a crackling noise coming from the back area where the compressor and other components are located. Should I order the kit (8201786) and try again, call the repairman, buy a compressor or a new fridge? Any suggestions on what could have possibly happened?

Trvln,

You may want to, at least check, if not replace the relay kit.

But I would have to start at the Adaptive Defrost Control board.

There is probably a damaged circuit on / in the printed circuit board.

(in fact, they have substituted the PC board to a conventional defrost timer)

That should be your next, logical repair.

Good Luck,
