Model Number: PSS29NGSABB Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Seems I have a common issue with ice forming inside the ice chute. I know the little door that opens and closes isn't closing tight enough to seal out the warm air outside. My only question is, do I replace the flapper door, the spring that keeps the door closed or the solenoid? At first, I thought solenoid but that only pulls down on the arm which opens the door. I'm leaning toward the door and the spring. Thoughts?

On this model I would say the flap is the problem. Often they will curl up in the edge and this will be enough to cause it to hang. Take the flap off and if the flap isn’t flat all the way across replace it. Typically if the spring isn’t broken it is ok. I have seen a lot of the solenoids rust up but not on this model. In any case it will not hurt to look because I imagine it could happen on any model. It is just that some models had some issues with this happing.
