I'm working on a Franklin Industries ice machine with compressor problems.
When it was brought to me, the compressor would not run at all, condenser fan ran fine. I tapped the relay and it it sparked and the compressor started, the condenser got warm and the evaporator got cold. Let it run about 10 minutes and shut it off, went back a few minutes later and removed the relay and the compressor was too hot to touch. The relay had a loose connection -on the common, I think- I bent the tabs back in and the compressor will start, but it doesn't seem to run long enough to freeze anything.
Parts are apparently discontinued for this machine.
I was thinking maybe the loose connection is causing the compressor to overheat and shut down.
I was wondering about putting a 3 in 1 combo kit on the compressor, if the problem is the relay, will this solve it, or maybe the compressor is about to die?
