it makes a whistling sound which appears to come from the ice maker. it occasionally will stop after ice maker is off a day or so. when the ice maker is turned on, it resumes it's whistling. i,m confused whether is is actually from the ice maker, or water line, or what

Traditionally, that whistling noise is the motherboard in the back of the refrigerator. The first time I heard it, I thought it was the ice maker too. Pull out the refrigerator, and behind it, there will be a panel, held in by 3 screws. In there is the motherboard. Real easy to replace. When you hear the noise, pull out the refrigerator, and listen to it, where the motherboard is. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
