We've got a 9 month old GE Profile refrig. The LED light panel in the refrig box has gone out. GE tech support says it will be $500 to send a tech out  As far as we can tell the door switches are working (the door open alarm will sound at the appropriate time). There are two simple red and black wires connecting the light panel. We tried reading volatage on those wires and there's no response on the voltmeter, even on 2.5V DC scale. We think it's the mother board, any ideas?

According to the manufacturer warranty your refrigerator is protected for full one year and GE must provide FREE of charge service within this period of time. Gene.

We called GE and were told that the only thing not covered is the LED lighting system ... grrrr. We found we can light the light panel by feeding it 18V from batteries, the tech at a local parts store said there's nothing between the light board and mother board so right now everything points to the board. We have one on order, should be here tomorrow.

The link I posted leads to the GE written and published on line warranty which says: "Any part of the refrigerator which fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. During this limited one-year warranty, GE will also provide, free of charge, all labor and related service to replace the defective part."
DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
Gene.

No, the mother board did not cure the problem. This was my Dad’s refrigerator. Being a tinkerer he used a spare 12V DC transformer to supply power to the LED panel and wired it through the back the fridge. He rigged contact switches to turn the light panel on and off with the door. Frankly, for what this fridge costs I would have been screaming at GE and/or Home Depot until someone came out and fixed it but he’s happy with the solution and it works.
