Problem with dispensing ice. We can get cube ice but when we select crushed ice we get nothing. Is the problem in the door switch or the ice maker? The ice maker P/N is WR30X328 or WR30X10093 made by GE. Your help is appreciated.

Most likely the problem is a bad dispenser control board (#39 on the break down diagram).

Dear Gene,

I have a G.E. Monogram 48" side by side refrigerator model number ZISS48DCASS, Serial Number VZ035863. In the last few weeks the three position "water,crushed,cubed ice" switch on the panel called "SmartWater" would dispense water but occasionally you had to jiggle the switch to get cubed or crushed ice. The problem got progressively worse and now it seldom works no matter how much one jiggles the switch. I suspect that the control board part number AP2071638 has failed, has a bad switch, or a loose solder joint. I am having trouble getting information on how to remove the board. I removed two screws at the top of the dispenser and removed a plastic ring molding from the front of the unit. Behind that there was a panel with six philips head stainless screws inside of the rectangular opening in the door that seems too small to remove the unit. Do I need to remove the screws to get to the baord? Does the palstic panel inside the refrigerator need to come off to get to it? I need to know how to remove the panel to get to the board, can you help? By the way I have a separate CB for the refrigerator on my electric panel so I can cut all power to the refrigerator while working on the board without affecting anything else. I would prfrer not having to leave the frezzer door open, or power off for more than ten to twenty minutes or so at a time to keep things frozen. There must be a way to get to this board easily, but I can't find it on the web and G.E is no help. You may post on this site or e-mail me at banspam@verizon.net, or call me at (941) 722-8287. Hi Dave,

Most likely the problem is a bad dispenser control board. The part number you posted is the correct part number. You can access this part from the front of the freezer door only. There is no access from the inner door panel. Unfortunately I do not remember exactly how many screws and which way have to be removed, but as soon as the dispenser frame removed it should be pretty visible. Power the refrigerator off before you will start to work on it.

Gene thanks for your response. Sorry about the numerous posts, I guess I don't understand the protocols of the site yet. I was trying to hit all the posts that seemed close and I don't know how to delete them. I tried the link you suggested with no luck. My problem with the ice dispenser is just how to get to the board. It really is not clear. There are six hard to reach screws behind the boarder ring that has two screws. But the unit seem too large for the hole in the door. I need more specific instructions I am afraid.

These are pictures of the refrigerator. They show the frame removed and the six screws behind it that are difficult to access. I am not sure if I need to remove the screws to get to the control panel. What do you think?

Look under the name plate (the plate where it says "Smart water") to see if there are a locking tabs. It you can see them then use a screwdriver to unlock the tabs. Slide the bottom out and down. I believe the control board is secured with two screws.
