I have a GE side by side refrigerator model number GSH22JFTAWW. Just replaced the defroster elements with a dual element, had a single element and still doesn't go into defrost. Need help to figure out what is wrong.

Typically if it is not the heater it is the evaporator thermistor. However it can be the defrost thermostat or the main board. The main board rarely fails in this way so it would be the last thing to replace. You can check the defrost thermostat and the heater at the same time from the main board. If it is open you know the heater or the thermostat is bad. In your case you just replace the heater so it will more than likely the thermostat. If that test checks out ok you can be almost sure the thermistor is bad.

If the heater, thermostat and thermistor all check well then replace the main board.

Don't attempt to check the main board check all the other things first then if all check ok replace the board. This page should help GE Refrigerator Repair Guide
