Sometimes the water dispenser doesn't work. It's happened intermittently ever since we bought the refrigerator. The water filter is changed every year and the ice maker makes enough ice for a half-dozen people in the heat of a Southern California summer so the filter is not clogged.

If it is just bad solenoids I'll know in about a week. If the water line is freezing I'll know the next time the water dispenser quits working!

When the water dispenser won't work there is a click somewhere inside the door but no water. Eventually there may be a buzzing noise in the door that, if the phase of the moon is right and I hold my elbow and the water glass at a certain angle with one foot off the floor and wiggle it widdershins, may change to a moan and the water will flow normally -- (click) On/(click) Off... until it happens again.

My best guess is that something in the freezer door is freezing but I've never seen any trace of ice in the water glass when the water finally started to flow. In the parts diagram I don't see a water solenoid in the door so I have no idea why there would be any noise in the door instead of back at the solenoid assembly. I suppose it could be transferring the sound through the water line but it's difficult to press the water dispenser switch in the freezer door and listen to the solenoids at the back of the refrigerator. A helper would be nice but it never seems to happen when there is anyone else is around and I really don't want to tear into the freezer door unless I absolutely have to do it.

If it is the water dispenser line freezing and transferring the sound from the solenoids, how do I keep the water line in the freezer door from freezing?

Some time last night the water inlet valve started leaking and there was water all over the floor.

Both solenoid/valve bodies looked like they'd been seeping for a while so I ordered a new assembly:

The new replacement parts work great and there have been no unusual noises at all for four months now -- problem solved.
