Is it normal for a fridge to run longer after its been defrosted? Before this, my 18.6 cu. ft. Maytag top-mount usually cycles on/off for approximately 14 minutes (for cooling) and about 15-16 minutes (to off) give or take, then repeats itself...

Cold Control settings:
Freezer Dial: 1-7 (set at 4)
Fresh Food Dial: 1-7 (set at 6). I used to have it set at '5', but with the 100+ scorcher for the past few days here in L.A., I turned it up a notch.

Every few hours or so it will go into 'automatic defrosting' mode, after this; it cycles back on and at this time it can run anywhere from 40-60 minutes (sometimes even longer!) for it to get back to its normal cooling intervals again. It also cycles and runs a bit quieter after its defrosted state.
Is it running too long or is this normal?
