Model Number: FRS23BH5CW1 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
We have a side-by-side frigidaire mode 241516669 (also see above).
The other day we came home to discover that our freezer door hadn't closed properly and, while everything in the freezer was cold enough that we didn't throw it away, we had to spend some time wiping down some frost build up before putting everything back. Later that evening and today the fan in the top rear of the freezer has been very noisy, and I am wondering whether the fan could: 1) Have worn out a bearing from running for too long, if the freezer ran for most of a day trying to cool down the freezer? 2) got condensation on it that formed ice that is causing the problem? How do I go about figuring out what is wrong or accessing the area? I can pull the fridge out to get at the rear panel, and it also looks like there are some removable panels in the rear of the freezer I could get at. Unfortunately, the unit came with the house from the previous owners, and they didn't leave the manuals when they moved. Any guidance for an intelligent but clueless homeowner would be appreciated. Take everything out of the freezer including the shelves, remove the screws on the rear panel and you can access the evaporator fan to check for ice buildup.
