Our Kenmore fridge of about 13 years seems to be operating erratically. The other day we noticed that the freezer temperature was about 20°F. The compressor was running. It seemed like the compressor was running for hours and not properly cooling. I figured that the compressor may be getting weak. Due to the age of the fridge we decided to just buy a new one. After coming home from placing an order, lo and behold - the freezer was at 0°F! It seemed to run fine and maintain temperature for a couple days, so I figured that the cooling system was in fact OK.
Now the freezer is back at 20°F. Compressor is running constantly and the freezer is staying at 20°F. Any ideas?

The freezer is working again. While poking around to diagnose the problem, I had unplugged the fridge for about 10 minutes. I had done the same thing last time too. So this is what seems to be happening:
1. Fridge works fine for several days, maintaining a freezer temp of 0°F.
2. Next thing I know, fridge is providing only partial cooling. Everything seems to be running normally, but freezer doesn't go below 20°F.
3. If I unplug the fridge for about 10 minutes and plug it back in, then the freezer goes back down to 0°F.
What would cause this? Might the compressor be getting flaky? I was thinking of trying a hard start kit, but when the freezer temp is 20°F the compressor seems to be running. Just not efficiently.
