the compressor in my ge side by side frig makes a fairly loud constant rumbling noise like driving over a rough road and a loud thump when it shuts off. any ideas?

Check if the refrigerator is leveled properly and the compressor legs are tight.

If there is nothing wrong then the only way to fix that noise is to replace the compressor. Check the manufacturer warranty on the sealed system.
