Hello folks, I have a Kenmore model 106.59062990 with the following symptoms:

The refrigerator seems to get stuck in defrost mode. If we turn the thermostat to the off position then back up, it resumes operation. Sometimes it will go a day or so without malfunctioning at all.

Everything seems to indicate defrost timer, but I wanted to check with some experts first.

Next dilemna: I'm aware of how to troubleshoot the defrost timer, but have no idea where it is on this fridge. Any help?

Looks like the defrost timer is in the fresh food section in the control panel.
There is usually a hole in the bottom of the panel so you can get to the cam to force a defrost cycle.
I went to the ******************************** site to get the above info.

Sounds more like a thermostat problem than a defrost timer problem.
Turning the thermostat to off should have no effect on the timer as it is mechanical.
But if the thermostat contacts are sticking open it will often shut then.

Oh, thanks so much! Will check that out as well. I'm curious how you found the part location on sears's site, I couldn't find any resources there.

I just went to ******************************** and it has a place to put in a model number and then you have to tell it if you are searching by model number or part number.
