both settings are on coldest temp, freezer temp 22 deg./ refrig. 40 plus. Unit is totally clean inc back and underneath. Runs quietly most of time.

Junebug,

When you open the freezer door, can you hear or feel the air from the evaporator fan motor running ?

I'm wanderring if you may have a slow, not running evaporator fan to circulate the air, or a bad temperature control, at this point.

Do you have frost or snow on the back wall of the freezer compartment ?
You could also have a defrost problem, but doesn't sound like it right now.

With this style refrigerator you have got to keep that static condenser (the tubing on the back)clean,(at least once a Year).
