Freezer fan no longer kicks on or off thus no cold air being circulated in freezer or down into refrig section. Freezer is presently 20 degrees; refrig 50 degrees. Do I need a new evaporator fan or what do you think has gone wrong here. I am keeping both doors closed as much as possible to retain coldness throughout. Recently lost job so absolutely need to fix myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I would do is pull the refer out, and at the top back of the box is an access panel that has a control board behind it. Look at the board on the right side, do any resistors look burnt, also look at the back of the board for any burn marks.

Put the board back in and all connections. Now, get your volt meter and set it on DC. Find the J2 connector, and measure DC voltage from pins 3 and 4.....FYI, pin 1 is at the top, and pin 8 is the bottom, so 3 down from the top and 4 down from the top.

Will have to try to hopefully obtain a volt meter from a neighbor. May not be able to get back to you on this step until tomorrow. Your patience will be appreciated. SH

Still haven't gotten my hands on a volt meter. Live in the country (Red Rock, Texas). Perhaps we can skip this step and go on to another test for now as the refrigerator is still operating and holding (Freezer temp is still 20; refrig is still 50 - same as yesterday). All exterior sides and rear of refrig are cold to touch. I still feel certain that the fan in the freezer is dead because hasn't kicked in for days and thus no cold air flow is being circulated down from freezer into refrig. Which fan unit is in the freezer: condenser or evaporator?
