Iced coil

Model Number: RS2534WW Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years

Frezer runs normally. Refrigerator compartment evap coil ices requiring to be deiced. How do you prove if the defrost timer is working as it is solid state? The defrost heater has resistance and appears to be in operable conditon. How would you identify the failed part?
