Exclamation Frezzer goes on and off
Model Number: FFU14FK1CW   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

5 years old Frigidaire freezer, one of the models,FFU14FK1CW/FFU14FC2CW,FFU14FC4CW or FFU14FC6CW (from Energy Guide, I could not find model # on the body..), seems to be shutting off by its self irregularly.
I noticed some stuff are thawing (a water paddle underneath) a couple of times, but after a couple of hours later, all froze back again. I can hear a fan working while it is working fine, but when it is not working I don't hear any noise.

Could you give me some advice please...

Sounds like your freezer is going thru it's defrost cycle, and it maybe getting stuck in defrost thus thawing a little then refreezing.

Check your thermostat in the control section, turn it down slowly until the compressor goes off wait a while then then slowly turn it back up until it comes back on and check your temperature to see if it goes up. Turn it a little at a time.

As for the water puddle- below there is a little cup it maybe full or have a little hole in it or the ddrain tube may not be in the cup all the way.
Hope that helps
Nat

Hi Nat,

The temperature goes up to a certain point, not enough to freeze a concentrate juice can. It has to be the hightest level all the time to keep contents frozen(but some of the stuff like bread/icecream does not freeze completely, while water does), so I guess it is not cooling enough? Which part should I look in to more?

Typically, I would say the thermostat. It might be worth a look to look at the coils to see if you have a complete frost pattern.

I have no idea how to look at...I would replace thermostat if I know where it is. I guess I need to call a repair guy anyway?

I think that if you look up your model number on this site you can do it. But if you are not comfortable then you should get a repair man.

Just update to this thread. I got a repair man came to see the freezer. I mentioned that it probably needed a new thamostat, but he was very sure that it needed gas instead. He charged CAD$145 (before taxes)for filling gas, and left. We still have water leak from the bottom... I 've booked them three times, but they never showed up. They are suppose to guarantee their work for the first year, but I start feeling that if I would neither get my money back nor get my freezer repaired.
