Default My Ice maker has a Virus!
Model Number: GSH25SGPASS   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
Hello to all.

I could get along without it, but it would be great if it worked properly. I enjoy being hands-on, but being ignorant in this arena, I am currently stumped.

Please permit me to set this up:

1.
In-door water dispenser functions properly. Very lately, noise was coming from the freezer compartment. Investigation reveals that there was much water apparently coming from the icemaker, washing down the inside back of the freezer compartment, partially freezing and eventually the evap fan was "pinging" as ice began to impede its travel/rotation. Hence, noise.

2.
Further, seems as though the fill tube for the ice cube maker was frozen solid. I eyeballed this myself. I manually thawed the freezer compartment, emptied the tube of ice. Cleaned throughout, and allowed to run. Ice cubes, which up to this point were not accumulating, began to. All was well.

3.
Cube production slowed, horrid fan noise began again, so did the ice down the backside of the compartment again. The cycle continued. So, I shut down the ice maker.

Now; there appears to be an item, a pair of stamped pieces of sheetmetal, about 2 inches square, that the fill tube for the icemaker passes through. It has two wires connected. Is this a heater for the fill tube? So that it does not freeze up?
Is this perchance what my issue is?

Lastly, there is a drain in the back wall of the freezer compartment. When this is used, where does all the water go???

Thank you in any regard!

Not exactly certain about the way you are describing the stamped metal thing, but assuming it is the fill tube heater the part number is AP3191295(which just to let your know is priced cheaper here than the large part suppliers wholesale it for).
Unfortuneately there's no picture for you to verify the part you are seeing.
You may want to check the grommet the fill tube connects to and check the tube as well for cracks.
I personally can't tell you where all the water goes....lol....usually there's a pan near the compressor that catches the water but I don't see one on your model. I basically trouble shoot and research parts, technical information, etc.
Hope that helps you some.

All the water is probably from a stuck water valve. The water from the drain hole (under normal conditions) generally is used to drain the water during the defrost cycle which generally very little, it drips on the hot compressor and is evaporated off.

Nat, is there some source of PDF'S or some such that shows assembly drawings or some sort of breakdown for my fridge?
