Hello, I just moved to this apartment last month, having this fridge (Hotpoint: CTX16ABNLWW), so I'm not sure of the age. (The apartment was built in 2000).

The freezer is on top of the fridge and the shelf is on door.

This will sound crazy, but it seems like when I accidentally have a plastic bag or similar thing on the freezer shelf, and it's kind of hanging over the shelf, the freezer decides to get really warm after a while. And I think it's due to some kind of sensor telling the entire fridge to completely shut off.

I would open the freezer after a couple of hours and see the freezer temp at around 35 degrees and the ice melting. The fridge seems to stay cold though.

It seems to happen also, if there's a plastic bag in there (a grocery bag), not even on the shelf, but simply inside the freezer and kind of puffed out.

( I sometimes keep garbage such as melon or chicken bones that would otherwise smell in the garbage, instead, placed into a grocery bag and put in freezer until I'm ready to throw out garbage )

The most annoying part of this, is knowing that when I complain to the apt maintenance, they will leave me one of those work invoices saying: "no problem found" .. it's one of those things that doesn't always happen. But I'm guessing that there is a connection to bags in the freezer, but not sure.

Does this at all make sense?

Any insight would help
Steve
