I just purchsed a new refrigerator shelf stud, Whirlpool P/N 2147997. I thought I would be able to tell how to remove the old one and install the new one just by looking at it. From looking at the new one, it looks like I could just pull the old one straight out but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

When I replace them, I use pliers to grab the old one pull and twist to remove it, it will come out, then you can push the new one in place.

The wire barbs are laying flat against the body on the support stud. It doesn't look like they will catch if I just push the new stud in place. Should I bend the wire barbs out a little before I install the stid?

I'm having the same problem. I followed the advice on removing the old stud, except that I turned it counter clockwise to remove. I then pulled another stud from behind the shelf and tried to refit it in the place of the broken stud. The re-situated stud sits in the hole without coming out, but it's loose, as though it's not all the way in the seat. I wonder if I've done something wrong. I ordered new studs in the meantime, so I'll see if the new ones perform better than the one I moved.
