My water dispenser usually freezes up and does not work for most of the time. I've never had it checked, but then 3 weeks ago, I noticed my refrigerator and freezer starting to warm up. When I emptied everything, I saw that there was frost built up on the back wall of the freezer. I called an appliance repair place and they said it was the defrost timer that was going out. They were going to charge me $300.00 to repair it. They told me to unplug it and plug it back in the next day and it would probably work for a while longer, but the timer needed to be replaced asap. Since I plugged the refrigerator back in, it's all working fine, even the water is now coming out of the water dispenser. When I keyed in my model number in the parts listing, it doesn't have a defrost timer listed anywhere in the diagram. I'm just curious if my model even is equipped with a defrost timer? Note: The freezer part was jam packed with food, since I had not cleaned it out in a while. Could that have caused no or little air circulation and the reasong for the warming?

The model number you listed doesn't seem to jive with any search engines I used... This site points towards a maytag freezer so recheck that model number for accuracy... Your fridge without a doubt has a defrost timer and I've seen one or two that have stopped and I was able to restart just by tapping on the body so don't be surprised if yours quit and restarted too; chances are good it will stop again and the familiar icing condition will reappear... Let's identify your model first and then go from there... cheers, kooler

Thanks for your reply. I rechecked the model number and it is correct. The mfg. # is P1190416WW if that helps. Any further help is appreciated.

OK the mfg number did help, APPros has diagrams of your model... The timer is in frame 12 and the defrost thermostat along with defrost heater are in frame 5... APPros is showing the timer as 'out of stock' but they should be able to get a new one if that's what you need... Go to the timer, locate the dial on the front and slowly turn clockwise until you hear a pronounced click... If the compressor was operating then it should stop and a defrost cycle begin, make note of the time when you started the defrost cycle... Remove the back inside cover of the freezer at the bottom and inspect the evaporator coil for ice buildup; check defrost heater operation... Is it getting hot? If not, then it's possible the heater or the defrost thermostat is bad (or both)... The timer should eventually return the circuit back to the refrigeration cycle within 20-35 minutes from when you first initiated the defrost cycle... If it doesn't then replace it...
