High Pitched Sound on Water Fill for Ice Maker

Just got a Kenmore fridge, and are generally happy with it. One issue - the ice maker is horribly loud when filling with water to make a new batch.
It only lasts for 5-10 seconds, but there's a very loud, high(ish) pitched wooshing sound as the water comes in.
We did have a Sears tech in because the ice maker wasn't connected internally (delivery guys forgot to do it), so we had no ice at all. He heard the fill sound, and was surprised, but said that it should quiet down soon since it's likely just clearing the air in the line. That was Monday. It's now Friday, and it's still doing it.
He also went to our basement and adjusted the valve on the line to roughly midway. I'm wondering if the valve on the line is too open or too closed, perhaps, and am hoping for some guidance. I'd really like to avoid a service call (or worse, replacement) for this if it's a simple fix, so I'd really appreciate any advice.
