Every month my GE Profile Side-by-side ices up on the freezer floor. We break up the ice, clean it up and about a month later the same thing happens. What causes this and how can it be corrected?

The drain is clogged. Look at the back of the freezer and you should see a trough with a hole in the center. That hole is the drain; clean all the ice from around the hole. The best way I have found unclog refrigerator drains is the force hot water down the drain with a turkey baser until water flows freely. Then mix water with baking soda and pour it down the drain to prevent it from clogging again anytime soon.

Thanks for the reply. Except for the baking soda part, this is what we do every time. I thought there would be something else that could be done to prevent the icing from occuring.

Once you clear the drain and pour the baking soda down the drain it shouldn’t ice up again anytime soon. It is not a bad idea to pour baking soda water down the drain once a year. Some people say pour bleach down the drain but I been using baking soda for years and it works great and it don’t smell nearly as bad as bleach.
