My freezer/fridge does not stay cold continuously. It is cold for a while then it gets warm then it cold, etc. Food in the freezer will freeze then thaw, then freeze...

This problem started about a week after I replaced the defrost timer (about three weeks ago) because the coil was icing up causing the freezer/fridge to not cool at all. Based on the diagnostic info I found on this forum I determined the defrost timer was bad. After installing the timer the heater came on and I could hear a hissing sound as the water melted, which lead me to believe the diagnosis was correct. Anyway, the coil does not appear to freeze up anymore but now, as described above, the freezer/fridge cycles between cold and warm. I set the temp controller to a lower setting which seemed to make things colder for a day or so, then it was back to cycling between warm and cold. I set the controller to an even lower temp with the same results.

What should I try/test next?
