Water dispenser solenoid

Model Number: SXd26VW Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

The ice maker is not getting water.. As read from the treads that the Water dispenser (secondary valve) and the valve water input to the ice maker is one one unit.. I Have 2 questions...
1. Since we are not using the fridge water dispenser(we are using 5 gal. spring water). can I use the fridge water dispenser solenoid only to input water to the icemaker.. The water dispenser works and i just replaced the ice maker..

2. Do I still need to replaced the fridge water dispenser FILTER even thou we are not using the water dispenser?
