Question GE Profile Too warm....then really cold
Model Number: PTC22MFMRBB   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

This is my first post, so please pardon any breaches of forum edicate. We have a Top Freezer GE profile, with dispenser in freezer door. For over a week fridge was 45 and freezer 11-14. I cleaned the (very dirty) coils a week ago, which made no difference. Service tech finally came out yesterday and diagnosed it as the compresser (after performing a pressure test I think). Said the dirty coils probably contributed to the demise. He checked the fan, evaporator, freon(?) system, etc. and said that was all fine. We've got a $542 compressor replacement scheduled. Since the tech left yesterday, it's been working like a champ. Freezer cooling to 0 or below and fridge at 32!!!! How can this be? Is the compressor really shot?

Thanks in advance.

A.J.
