KitchenAid ice maker works fine as long as the ice cutter grid is unplugged. Clean light starts flashing and it becomes very warm inside the unitand it stops making ice when the ice cutter grid is plugged back in. Do I need to replace the ice cutting grid or is there something more sinister going on inside the control panel?

Hi.

The problem that you are describing could be caused by shorted cutter grid or mad control board.
Definitely start with the grid first.

The ice cutting grid Part number: 2313637
Part number: 2313637

The control board Part number: 2304016
Part number: 2304016

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Whirlpool KUIA15NLHS9 ICE CUBE MAKER | AppliancePartsPros.com

PS. You can always return any unused parts even if they been installed.

Thank you. Post the results.

Simon.

Replaced cutting grid, did not fix problem. Replaced mother board, did not fix problem. Replaced bin thermistor and still does not work. The unit will make one slab of ice, but shuts down before the second cycle starts and the clean light starts flashing continuously. Any other ideas?
