My washer fills up with water, washes, drains and rinses but when it starts to spin it makes a loud noise like its beating and when you look at the drum its trying to spin but acting as if something is stuck keeping it from spinning so its kind of making a jerking motion with an awful noise like its rubbing on something. I am not sure if it has a belt or not I was thinking maybe the belt broke or something. Its a whirlpool top load washer model number LSQ9600LW1. Thanks so much for any advice or help.

Pull off the pump and motor and turn the tranny coupler clockwis till the clutch housing starts to turn. If it is very hard to turn, you either have bad brake shoes, or something stuck in the tub. If it turns ok, check for any roughnes, if so, you have a bad tranny.
