Electric oven was being used when there was a bright flash inside and then the baking element quit working. A few weeks later, same thing occured when using the broiling function.

Electronic Oven control (EOC) still works and lights up when you press buttons for the oven. No problem with stovetop....

Any idea what this could be?

I would say change both of the elements and it will go back to work. The bright light you saw was the elements burning out. But I will warn you sometimes when the elements burn out it will cause the control to go bad so you might have to change it as well. But don’t worry this doesn’t happen often it is likely that the elements will fix your problem. Range Repair Guide
