If something was dropped on the unit and it shattered then their offer is generous.
If it shattered all on it's own then they are dodging their responsibility and I would raise a stink.
I am a Canadian so do not know where you should report this to. A little research on the net should help you find the correct government organizations. Perhaps someone else will jump in with the proper organizations. Or you may want to start a new thread asking for where to report this. A top that shatters on its own is a very dangerous situation!!!
Lets say it shattered with a pot of boiling water on the stove, anyone near the stove could be scalded. God forbid that the person is a small child. Or hot fat which could end up burning down a home.
Who knows they may have a bunch of defective tops out there and you will be doing others a service by pursuing this, perhaps even saving lives. I would report it even if Whirlpool does agree to cover the full cost.

Thanks for the help. It was not used, it is brand new. Maytag is refusing to replace it under warranty and said all they can do is give us the replacement part at half price.

The glass on top of our Maytag range shattered. We are going to order the piece to replace it, but I can't find anything to show me how to do this.
Is this something my husband and I can do ourselves? We just got this stove 4 months ago and I really don't want to spend a fortune getting it repaired.
Thanks!
