You need to take off the cabinet. This site will show you how. Note that your console may be held down with screws in the front, back, or under trim pieces which should snap off.
Kenmore top loader blues (SublimeMasterJW's Appliance Advice)
Once you take off the cabinet it will be clear (and easy) how to replace the switch.
