Hello,

Our ice maker and water dispenser seem to be working fine. However, there is a VERY loud noise coming from the rear of the freezer, right behind the ice maker. It occurs at random whether or not we are using the dispenser at that time. We have to unplug the fridge or turn off the water supply to the unit to get the noise to stop.

Our question is, would the ice maker motor make this sort of noise if it is malfunctioning or is there something else in that vicinity that could be the cause? It sounds like the freezer is going to blast off and wakes us all up if it happens at night.

We have had the water supply turned off for a couple months. Today I removed the ice maker motor and turned the water back on. The water dispensed fine. Then I reinstalled the motor and received my first batch of ice a little while later. That also dispensed fine. No noise yet....

We are hoping to get a good idea of whether it is the motor that is bad before we go ordering a part. Also, does the auger turn the ice over at times so the ice does not stick together? That would explain why it would start making noise at random.

Your input is much appreciated! Thanks, Laura & Derek
