You were right it was the transmision!

Can you confirm what is going on. The motor is supposed to turn counterclockwise in spin. Take off the belt and see if this is what is happening.

Here is the service manual for your machine which explains how the transmission works. On the surface it sounds like the transmission is the problem.

When washer goes into spin cycle it gets locked up and won't turn. It looks like the motor is going in the oposite direction than it should be and it just smokes the belt. If you stop the motor and turn the drum by hand it turns in the oposite direction than the motor is running.When you tyurn it by hand it turns freely. Just replaced the main drum seal a month ago and it ran fine for a month. Then it started to make loud noise and now it is doing this. I never was around when it was making the noise to find the problem.
