I have a hotpoint gas stove that leaks gas sometimes (but not always) after I turn it off. Turning it back on and off again seems to eventually solve the problem. Everything else works fine, and it does not leak gas spontaneously. My working theory is that the thermostat needs to be replaced, since that seems to be the only mechanism for making sure gas stops flowing when the oven is turned off. Does this sound like the likely problem, or am I overlooking something else that could cause this? The only other thing I can think of is a leak due to thermal expansion of the pipes, but then the problem would not go away due to fiddling with the knob.
Thanks, Steve
