My Whirlpool electric dryer wouldn’t start a week or so ago, so I assumed (but did not test) blown thermal fuse. I dismantled and cleaned the lint from the vent pipe, bought and installed a new fuse, and it worked like a champ for about a week. Last night, my wife said it wouldn’t start, and I noticed the heating element, which is visible looking through the door, on the back of the drum, was glowing red hot. I turned off and unplugged the dryer (which was super hot to the touch). So, I’d assumed the first time this happened it was due to a lint clog, but now i’m wondering if the heating element is sticking on high? I believe my wife was attempting to dry clothes on low setting, yet as I said, the element was glowing red hot. Any thoughts toward a resolution would be appreciated.
